Gallu Newsletter

Issue 5

October 2005

Lisa Johnston – HRD Co-ordinator for South West Wales and Carmarthenshire Facilitator.

Hello, and welcome back. I sincerely hope your summer has been as busy as the Gallu Teams!

As suspected we bumped into many of you whilst we were out and about spreading the Gallu gospel and by all accounts business is going very well.

We have started back with the workshops and have kicked off with the St Fagans day trip on what can only be described as a fantastic day, the weather was bright and sunny, the welsh cakes were warm and delicious and we had a really informative tour.  For those of you who fancy making some Welsh Cakes see a little further along the newsletter, the portions are for quite a lot of people though so you will have to break them down.

Talking about recipes we have got some fantastic seminars happening all across the region, in November we are investigating special dietary requests and have got the local colleges involved, we have asked them to see which student can come up with the best special dietary requirement recipe then they will have the opportunity to make if for you at the seminar!

Before that though October sees the continuation of our Heritage Time Travel Trade Days and some extra fun with our Noson Lawens!  Don’t miss them, it’s a fantastic opportunity to source some local talent for those dark winter night when you’re trying to attract more visitors!

I hope you are all well, and look forward to seeing you again over the coming months.

Remember:  There are no strangers here, only friends we haven’t met yet!

Take Care

Lisa

Heritage Trip to St Fagans and follow on workshops

The Trade Day to St Fagans on the 12th of September went really well on the Gallu Bus! (Thankyou Nick from Sycamores Riding!)

Everyone enjoyed finding out about the history of their area especially St Teilo’s Church and its restoration and reconstruction on its new site.  We ended the day with a Quiz on the way back on the bus!

As follow on workshops from the Trade Day a range of heritage workshops have been arranged over South West Wales over the coming month to highlight the history and heritage of various areas.  The Menter Iaith is also involved in the workshops and also PLANED in Pembrokeshire.
