1) Matters Arising -
It was agreed that the New Stadium Trade Day was a success and there was a good turn out on the day.
National Training Awards – Gallu had been shortlisted but they did not go through. It was agreed that is was too time consuming to try for future awards.
Capacitate Project – LJ stated that she was on this steering group and there were a lot of other projects around covering similar things. LyJ stated that Elwa had turned down a lot of applications for projects as they were very similar. It was suggested that LJ tried to keep an eye on the different projects and see if there was a way Gallu could get involved. It was suggested to ask Geraint Bowen how successful the various projects were and if they have helped to get people back to work.
LJ stated that Rob Jenkins from Job Force Wales is on the capacitate steering group and had previously been working on a project with employers to help them accept the economically inactive more readily. CO suggested asking Rob Jenkins to come along to a future forum meeting to explain what he had been doing to help people who are inactive and how successful it was.
It was highlighted the importance of strengthening these links with various projects. LJ to action
2) Gallu Update –
LJ highlighted that the project had been successful in its bid for an extension. LJ carried out a presentation about the progress of Gallu with its new targets. LJ stated that the targets are achievable as the project will become more sector specific.
CO suggested in future including the course cost with matchfunding to increase the overall amount.
CO suggested changing the beneficiary form to explain what each NVQ is equivalent to as the trade are getting confused as to what they are. It was suggested to compare the forms with the last evaluation to see if more people will fill this section in when it has an explanation. LE
LJ stated that The Mind the Gap survey had continued again last year. DJ stated that they would like to continue with it again this year. CO suggested benchmarking the project to see if the gap in learning had decreased. DJ stated that they would have to look into the resources they have.
LJ stated that she is currently working on an Employment Practice Project with Gallu and that she is setting up a steering group to work on it.
LJ stated that she is currently looking at statistics from the Economic Review and they do not seem to match what the trade are saying. It was suggested to carry out a questionnaire with the trade but as Gallu have carried out a few surveys the trade may be reluctant to complete more. It was suggested to ask the trade at the Tourist Association Open Meetings. LJ stated that she would look into this. LJ
BP suggested that Lisa ring Job Centre Plus on the following number for stats:- 02920 380780 or web address www.nomisweb.co.uk.
LJ stated that they have had 65 surveys back from the trade evaluating the Gallu Project. An analysis of the surveys needed to be carried out.
Customer Care – Invites were given out to everyone on the Panel for an event on the 16th of February 06.
3) West Wales Hospitality Forum/Afan Forest Park Trade Day -
It was agreed that the event would be cancelled on the 8th of February as there was a poor turnout and there were other events being held on the same day across the region.
4) Future of Gallu – CO asked everyone to start thinking about what to put into an application for a second ESF funded Gallu project if we were to apply in early 2007.
