Strategies for the Welsh Assembly:
Wales Spatial Plan
A fundamental principle of the Spatial Plan is that different parts of Wales experience different opportunities and challenges.
The 2004 Plan therefore translated the overall national objectives into visions for six distinct Areas of Wales. The visions will shape how each Area will develop economically, socially and environmentally.
The six Spatial Plan areas of Wales are:
- North West Wales - Eryri a Môn
- North East Wales - Border and Coast
- Central Wales
- South East Wales - Capital Network
- Swansea Bay - Waterfront and Western Valleys
- Pembrokeshire - The Haven

Wales a Better Country - the strategic agenda of the new Welsh Assembly Government.
Wales a Better Country is an agenda to provide fresh direction for all who are working together for the benefit of Wales and its three million people.
Wales: A Better Country sets out:
- guiding vision of a fairer, more prosperous, healthier and better educated country, rooted in our commitment to social justice and to putting health and wealth creation that is sustainable at the heart of policy-making;
- radical agenda for public services in Wales, with a programme for delivering the manifesto commitments;
- the priority issues which are broader than any one section of government and where smarter working and working together can make a bigger and longer-lasting impact; and
- the way we want to deliver jointly with our partners in local government, business, the trade unions and the voluntary sector.
This agenda sets a challenge to all concerned with the future of Wales. With devolution, our destiny as regards health, wealth, education, the environment, and the domestic agenda more widely, is increasingly in our own hands.

Each section of the plan is prefaced with a brief vision statement, describing the changed outcomes we are aiming for, and what success will look like.

Wales: A Vibrant Economy
The Welsh Assembley Governments vision is of a vibrant Welsh economy delivering strong and sustainable economic growth by providing opportunities for all. The approach for realising this vision is built around Wales‘ core strengths: an increasingly skilled, innovative and entrepreneurial workforce; an advanced technology and knowledge base; strong communities; a stunning natural environment; and an exceptional quality of life. The growing range of powers, short decision chains, close partnerships, local knowledge and willingness to engage will help in building an ever stronger competitive advantage for Wales.

Achieving Our Potential
This updated strategy complements and supports the priorities in Wales: A Vibrant Economy - the recently published refreshed economic development strategy.
In particular, it seeks to identify the future priorities for tourism in Wales and sets out a realistic action plan to encourage an effective partnership response from the public and private sectors.
The merger of the Wales Tourist Board with the Welsh Assembly Government in April 2006 will provide opportunities for more co-ordinated government support for the tourism industry to stimulate sustainable growth and success during the period covered by this strategy.

Innovation Action Plan
Innovation as we define it in this action plan is the successful, commercial exploitation of new ideas. It is a key driver of productivity. Other external factors affect productivity and profitability, but innovation generates competitive advantage and promotes sustainable growth, with all that that means in terms of more aped value jobs and greater, more sustained, prosperity. It is in the clear interest of businesses of all types to embrace it.
‘Wales for Innovation’ sets out in greater detail how the innovation elements of ‘A Winning Wales’ can be delivered by and for business.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Management Plan
The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Management Plan (NPMP):
- presents a vision for the future of the National Park
- sets out objectives and targets, reflecting National Park purposes, in order to achieve that vision
- reports on the current position
- identifies opportunities and threats relating to achievement of objectives
- identifies partners‘ current and potential roles in achieving objectives
- features key projects and initiatives currently underway.
It replaces the ‘National Park Plan: Second Review for the Period 1994-1999’. NPMPs are particularly aimed at organisations involved in day-today management of the National Park and at decision-makers. But the planning process seeks to engage everyone with an interest or stake in management of the National Park.
The NPMP will mesh with the Community Plan for Pembrokeshire, and both will draw on and directly contribute to National Assembly for Wales‘s ‘Plan for Wales’ objectives and the Welsh scheme and UK strategy for sustainable development.
